Date 14/01/2005

On January 13 the Management Board of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange presented the strategic guidelines of the Exchange's operation during the Board's mandate: 2005 - 2009. In their presentation the Management Board members gave an assessment of the existing situation, presented the development model of the Exchange and its key strategic goals.

The Management Board of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, composed by Marko Simoneti, PhD, as President and Andrej Šketa as Member, presented the strategic guidelines of the Exchange's operation during the Board's mandate from 2005 to 2009. In their presentation the Management Board members gave an assessment of the existing situation, presented the development model of the Exchange and its key strategic goals.

The Management Board considers that the existing favourable quantitative picture of the domestic market, upon taking into account its quality, fails to ensure a possible long-term development and existence of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange within the EU single market.

"The main purpose of the Exchange is to ensure to all investors an access to and exit from investments at a fair market price. Liquidity of the market with adequate market mechanisms (auctions, volatility interruption, market makers), and surveillance over the trading and reporting of issuers are the fundamental cumulative conditions for a high quality market. We wish to present this to all potential investors by adequate segmentation of the existing market", said Simoneti in his presentation.

Further development of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange as successful business performer is based on the strategy of stock market growth. The Exchange intends to achieve the set goals by increasing the volume of trading on the stock market, developing new products and services which can compare with those offered elsewhere in the European Union. One of the key strategic goals is to attract foreign portfolio investors.

Finally Simoneti emphasised that "the next two years will be of essence for the stock market development and application of this strategy will be heavily dependent on committed co-operation of all other institutions of the domestic capital market and on possibilities for and interest in international liaisons of the Exchange".
