STOXX Research, Commented By Jan-Carl Plagge, Head Of Applied Research, STOXX Ltd.: Japan And The technology Sector Performing Strong

Date 10/11/2017

Although the worldwide political situation continues to be characterized by risks and uncertainties, the stock markets are performing positive in general. The top performer on country level in October was the Japanese stock market, which was, in part, driven by the reelection of Shinzō Abe as Prime Minister. The publication of the strong quarterly figures of tech-companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet pushed the technology sector to the top in industry comparison and had a positive influence on the US stock market in general.

The iSTOXX® MUTB Japan Quality 150 index – jointly developed by STOXX Ltd. and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust & Banking (MUTB) in 2015 – consists of 150 quality companies domiciled in Japan with sustainable cash flows, low leverage and high profitability. The selection of components is based on four fundamental measures: ROE, debt-to-capital, cash-flow-generation ability and net-income stability. The index selects the companies within the broader STOXX® 600 Japan Index.
