Mr. Vicharat Vichit-Vadakan, President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), said, "The SET has improved its website to make it easier for investors to find complete and accurate information in either Thai or English. Having expanded the information provided and upgraded the hardware/software systems, we can handle ten times more simultaneous users on our new website. Not only is there more information available, but it is also easier to access the type of information you need. Updates on the price, volume and value of stocks traded on the SET are now made every 15 minutes. To meet the needs of our users, the website now also contains information on listed companies going back six months rather than just two months."
"Additionally, we have added newcomer sections called 'New Investor' and 'Investor Service Center'. With other data useful for listed companies, brokerages, and various organizations, the new site is also linked to other capital market-related websites in Thailand and other countries. All these improvements will make it easier for investors to access truly complete and comprehensive information to guide their investment decisions. Compared to those in other countries, the SET's website is one of the best for providing thorough information for investors," Mr. Vicharat added.
Users can also take advantage of a simulation program to create up to three personal stock portfolios with 20 securities each, and the prices of their choices will be automatically compared to market prices. Moreover, downloadable documents include the SET listing manual and forms, information disclosure manual, annual reports, Form 56-1, statistical data, research reports and seminar proceedings.
In developing the new website, the SET received technical and service support from IBM (Thailand) Limited. Mr. Wanarak Ekachai, Chairman of IBM (Thailand) said, "IBM used our state-of-the-art e-business technology in developing the new website system for the SET. We used the DB2 database, which can support a great deal of data efficiently. We used Websphere software, an AIX operating system, and an R/S 6000 server because the website needed to contain a high volume of data. It can support about 1,000 transactions a minute from investors and other interested viewers all over the world, permitting users to enjoy a much more convenient service."
During the introductory phase of the new website, viewers who register as members of www.set.or.th can profit in several ways: enjoy opportunity to create a personal investment portfolio, receive news briefs, e-mail newsletters, and the right to reserve seats for training sessions, seminars or other activities organized by the SET (without having to complete an information form each time).
"Concurrent with developing our new SET website, we are also revamping our entire system of disseminating crucial investment information through other media, so as to better serve investors," Mr.Vicharat confirmed.
