President of the SET, Mr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong, disclosed that the SET will be presenting information on the Thai capital markets and taking Thai listed companies to meet institutional investors in London, New York, and Boston on a roadshow. The President said that the 'Thailand Emerging Opportunities Day' to be held from September 15-18, 2003, is a roadshow conducted in collaboration with Citigroup to three cities that are investment and financial centers. At the event, the SET will show the potential of listed companies as well as promote and enlarge the base of institutional investors in the Thai market. They also expect to gain feedback from institutional investors who play a significant role in Thai capital markets.
"The second roadshow of 2003 will be taking nine listed companies to present information to investors while also showing the growth potential and overall attractiveness of the Thai market. Participating companies comprise two large companies with market capitalization worth over one billion US dollars and many affiliates under their umbrellas. The other seven medium-sized companies, each possessing high growth potential, have market capitalization worth between 100-1,000 million US dollars. These companies operate in major industries vital to the country's economy--communication, energy, property development, finance and securities, entertainment and recreation, and vehicles and parts-and are currently attracting a lot of investors."
"The institutional investors that we are expecting comprise of provident fund managers investing in global markets as well as funds that focus on the emerging markets. Collectively they have fund sizes under their management worth billions of dollars," Mr. Kittiratt said.
He went on to say that the medium sized companies with high growth potential joining the roadshow have been invited since foreign institutional investors have shown interest in them. Overall, this is a good sign for investment both in Thailand and in South East Asia, demonstrating that the region has gained increased confidence from investors. Besides, the more information that institutional investors have on the Thai stock market and its listed companies, the more equipped they are to make efficient investment decisions concerning the Thai market.
The roadshow is scheduled to visit London for two days from September 15-16, then one day in New York on September 17, and finish in Boston on September 18. Each day the listed companies will be meeting with institutional investors on a one-on-one basis. This will enable institutional investors to fully gain in-depth information on the market's development as well as firsthand company information.
