The Chairman of the SET and the TSD, Mr. Chavalit Thanachanan, announced that this year the TSD was honored to host the 6th Asia-Pacific Central Securities Depository Group (ACG) from Monday 18th - Tuesday 19th of November 2002 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. More than three hundred top-level executives from securities depository organizations in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as local and foreign participants, are expected to attend.
The ACG was established in 1997 as an international organization for the securities depository in the region. Its members currently comprise twenty-five central depositories from seventeen countries in Asia-Pacific.
"Being invited to host the 6th ACG Conference in Thailand this year shows that the maturity of the securities depository in Thailand is well recognized. It is the first time that there will be a meeting of top-level executives here from securities depository organizations in Asia-Pacific to exchange views constructively on the operation of depositories, their members and related parties in the capital markets," the SET Chairman said.
In addition to exchanging knowledge, experience, and keeping update on new developments - the main objective for holding the conference every year - on the first day (18 Nov.), there will be a presentation on the current global trend in the application of scripless systems and on the requirements for being a clearinghouse that guarantees real-time clearing and settlement. This is entitled: "Seamless, Scripless and in Real Time: CSD and CCP Today" and will be presented by Mr. Prasong Vinaipaeth, Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Moreover, there will be a seminar on "The New Era of CSD & CCP: How to Enhance Your Value Added Services" to present the views of practitioners in the custodian as well as clearing and settlement business. Issues in focus will be adjustments in clearing and settlement, services that should be added to benefit customers, and an exchanging of information about new services adopted in the world capital markets. This should allow for this information to be adopted for the further improvement of the industry in the future. Seminar participants will be from leading local and foreign corporates, such as The Capital Markets Company (CAPCO), Deutsche Bank AG (Amsterdam Branch), HSBC Holdings Plc., OM AB (from Stockholm), and Standard Chartered Bank. The seminar presents an opportunity for related organizations and the news media to attend free of charge.
On the second day of the conference, there will be an internal meeting of top-level executives of member securities depository organizations for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and new developments in the past year as well as hearing information and suggestions relating to the operational standards of member securities depository organizations.
"It is believed that this conference will enable both the TSD, its member companies, as well as securities depository-related organizations, in both the public and private sectors, to know more about developments in the clearing and settlement systems of the world capital markets, plus views of the business from experts and experienced persons involved in the global capital markets. This will be of timely benefit for preparing for coming developments and, in the meantime, is a good opportunity to make Thailand better-known to top-level executives of leading foreign organizations," the chairman concluded.
