Stock Exchange Of Thailand To Hold Special Lecture On "Strategies That Drive The Thai Economy", Present The Annual Scholarship And Prizes For An Essay Competition To Promote Good Corporate Governance

Date 23/06/2003

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will hold the Prof. Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation's annual seminar on "Strategies that Drive the Thai Economy". The Foundation is honored to have H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak give a special lecture explaining the vision for the country's development, as well as being the Chair presenting the scholarship and prizes for an essay competition to promote good corporate governance on July 3.

The chairman of Prof. Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation, Mr. Chavalit Thanachanan, revealed that this year the Foundation will hold its 2nd annual seminar on "Strategies that Drive the Thai Economy". H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister, will give a special lecture titled "Local Link - Global Reach: Strategies that Link Local Economies to World Markets". These strategies aim at strengthening the domestic economy to be more competitive in the global markets, one of the main policies of the current government. The seminar will be organized on Thursday July 3, 2003, from 13.30 - 16.00 hours at the Grand Hall, Hôtel Plaza Athènèe.

On this occasion, Dr. Olarn Chaiprawat will also be giving a talk, called "Diamond Five Paradigm: New Paradigm of the World Economy". This new paradigm is based on a new approach that uses forecasting models specially adjusted to today's global economy. The paradigm treats the economies of the U.S.A., the European Union, and Japan, the traditional lead indicator group, as no more important than the economies of China and ASEAN countries. As a result, today no economy is the dominant lead indicator. The forecasts derived from this new approach will thus produce very close approximates to our real national economic growth rates. People in economics, finance, and business administration circles will find this annual seminar very worthwhile.

"Besides the valuable seminars, awards will be given to the winners of the essay competition to promote good corporate governance. The competition is held by the Committee on Promoting Understanding and Pubic Relations of Good Corporate Governance in Thailand. H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak will preside over the ceremony and present the prizes to the winners in the university category and general public category. The winners will receive prizes worth over 150,000 baht in total for this, the first-ever essay competition on good corporate governance held in Thailand," the Foundation Chairman said.
