Stock Exchange Of Thailand: Stock Trading Gaining Momentum With More Than 10 Billion Baht Daily Turnover In May 2002

The President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), Mr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong, commenting on the securities trading figures on the SET and the MAI, from January to May 2002, announced the following: "Securities trading during the first five months reached 1,109,275.16 million bath or 10,982.92million bath a day. This is higher than last year's eight-month figure of total trading and an even greater advance than the year 2000. For daily turnover in May 2002, the figure was 10,248.77 million baht, compared to 8,582.71 million baht a day in April 2002. Trading value during the first five months of 2002 thus reflected the active participation of both local and foreign investors."

"In May 2002, securities trading reached 204,975.49 million baht in total, a rise from April 2002 of 25.70% or 41,904.01 million baht. In terms of volume, trading turnover was 16,607.27 million shares. The SET Index closed on May 31 at 407.96, up by 36.54 points or 9.84% from the previous month (which closed at 371.42). It reached its peak on May 29 at 409.11 which was the highest in the two-year period since May 2000."

The busiest broker was Kim Eng Securities (Thailand) Co., Ltd. with a total turnover value of 52,312.34 million baht, and the most actively traded securities were the warrants of Kiatnakin Finance Public Co., Ltd. (KK-W4), with a total turnover worth 6,875.82 million baht. The shares of Major Cineplex Public Co., Ltd., which only began trading on the bourse on May 23 - allowing for only seven days trading, ranked number six amongst the most actively trade securities in May 2002.

As regards securities trading on the MAI, in May 2002, total turnover reached 49,629,045 baht in value and 55,264,800 shares in volume, with the shares of Roynet Public Co., Ltd. (ROYNET) the most actively traded at 16,405,947 baht in total.
