"At the meeting, the Nominating Committee appointed Mr. Charamporn Jotikasthira, Executive Vice President of the Information Technology Division of Siam Commercial Bank Plc. and Mr. Songdej Praditsmanont, Managing Director of Ernst & Young Limited, Thailand. The member companies also elected Mr. Vikit Kachonnarongvanich, Director of Phillip Securities (Thailand) Plc. The members due to complete their terms are Mr. Somjate Moosirilert, Mr. Montree Sornpaisarn, and Mr. Chokechai Tanpoonsinthana. The new members of the SET Board of Governors, appointed for a two-year term, from May 28, 2002 - May 27, 2004, are all distinguished persons who are capable, have extensive experience in the capital markets, and will greatly contribute to the development and operation of the SET," Mr.Kittiratt said.
Of the SET Board of Governors' eleven members, the SEC Nomination Committee elects five, while a further five are elected by member companies. Three of these are selected at a meeting convened by the member companies and two appointed by the member companies' Nomination Committee. The SET President automatically becomes a member due to his position. Ten members of the Board will be in office for two years and may be re-elected once, but cannot retain these positions for more than two consecutive terms. For the member-cum-President, he may be in office for four years and be re-elected for one consecutive term only.
