In the year 2002, trading was positively affected by factors like the recovery of the Thai economy and the R/P interest rate cut. Trade during the latter half of the year was affected by the fall on US stock market, from the World Com accounting scandal as well as uncertainty over the recovery of the United States' economy and the tension between the US and Iraq. This caused trade volume to be thin in the latter half of the year. However, the year 2002 still saw a jump in trade volume when compared to volume in 2001.
