The SET President, Mr. Kittiratt Na-Ranong, announced that the SET has collaborated with BNP Paribas Peregrine Securities in taking a total of 16 listed companies to Singapore on July 28-29, 2004. These firms are listed on either the SET or the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI). The companies’ representatives will present their information to about 20 leading institutional investment firms. The event is held under the theme “Mid-Cap Companies: The Jewels in the Crown”. This theme, we believe, appropriately reflects the potential and significance of these outstanding mid-sized companies especially the property and automobile sectors.
In addition to the company information presented, Dr. Bhokin Bhalakula, Thailand’s Interior Minister, will kindly give a keynote address on “The Measures to End Violence in the South” and Dr. Olarn Chaipravat, Advisor to the Finance Minister, will give an address on “The Thai Economy After Interest Rates Rise”.
“We believe that the over 70 fund managers who will participate in this roadshow will obtain valuable information from these 16 firms that are showing the greatest growth potential. These establishments come from a variety of industries. Company representatives will disseminate their information both through classroom presentations and one-on-one meetings. Attendees will also clearly get the chance to better see the big picture and hence gain more confidence in Thailand’s economic fundamentals and stability. The overall picture will be made clearest in the addresses given by the Interior Minister and the Advisor to the Finance Minister.” Mr. Kittiratt said.
One of the foreign funds participating in the roadshow will include The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) -- which is one of the largest foreign funds investing in the Thai market, with approximately USD 537 million (or about THB 22,017 million) worth of investment. Other foreign funds participating will include Aberdeen Asset Management Asia, with USD 140 million (about THB 5,740 million) investment; First State Investment International, with USD 121 million (about THB 4,961 million) in its portfolio, and Schroders Asset Management, which has investments of USD 80 million (about THB 3,280 million). These well-known funds have actively shown interest in gaining additional information from Thai listed companies.
The Thai listed companies participating in the roadshow are comprised of 15 listed companies on the SET and one on the MAI. These firms operate in six major industry groups- financials, industrials, property and construction, resources, services, and technology. They will be presenting, for example, comprehensive information on their strengths, performances, financial standings, management polices, information disclosures, and investor relations services.
The market capitalization, of the total 16 listed companies participating, is equivalent to THB 178,215 million or 4.2% of Thailand’s total market capitalization as of July 21, 2004.
