Standard & Poor's - Index Change - S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap And S&P/TSE Canadian SmallCap Indices

Standard & Poor's Canadian Index Operations announces that effective after the close of business on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, the following changes will take place in the S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap and S&P/TSE Canadian SmallCap Indices.

The shares of 360networks Inc. (TSE: TSX), Certicom Corp. (TSE: CIC) and Telesystem International Wireless Inc. (TSE: TIW) will be removed from the S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap Index and replaced with Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. (TSE: AGE), Meridian Gold Inc. (TSE: MNG)and Westaim Corporation (TSE: WED). 360networks Inc., Certicom Corp. and Telesystem International Wireless Inc. will be added to the S&P/TSE Canadian SmallCap Index.

360networks Inc., Certicom Corp. and Telesystem International Wireless Inc. are being removed due to lack of representation.

Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. is a gold producer whose operations are located primarily in northwestern Quebec. Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. will be added to the S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap Index in the Materials sector.

Meridian Gold Inc. is a gold producer with mining operations in the El Pen Mine in Northern Chile. Meridian Gold Inc. will be added to the S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap Index in the Materials sector.

Westaim Corporation is a technology company which includes iFire Technology Inc., Westaim Biomedical Corp. and Technology Deployment International Inc. as subsidiaries. Westaim Corporation will be added to the S&P/TSE Canadian MidCap Index in the Industrials sector.
