Standard & Poor's Announces Revisions To The GICS Structure For Its Canadian Indices

Date 27/03/2002

As previously announced, Standard & Poor's and MSCI will make changes to the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS)SM structure, effective Thursday March 28, close of business, EST.

In 1999, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) and Standard & Poor's jointly developed the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS)SM to establish a common global standard for categorizing companies into sectors and industries, thereby enabling asset owners, asset managers and investment research specialists to make seamless comparisons across indices by industry, by region, and globally.

As a result of their joint annual review of GICS, Standard & Poor's announces the changes to GICS structure that affect the S&P Canadian index marketplace. All changes in the GICS structure will be implemented after the close of business, EST, on Thursday, March 28, 2002. For a detailed description of the GICS classifications, please refer to the Standard & Poor's web site at www.spglobal.com/gics.html.
