Hello, my name is Simonetta and I am currently the longest-serving member of the FSB Secretariat, having joined from the Bank of Italy in January 2010.
The early FSB years were intense: a small Secretariat working against the clock to fix the fault lines that brought the financial system close to collapse during the Great Financial Crisis. Serving the global public good guided our days—and often our nights. Today, much has changed, but our commitment to supporting the FSB’s work for a resilient, well functioning global financial system has not wavered.
I feel privileged to have witnessed the FSB Plenary reach consensus on major financial stability issues. Seeing consensus form is fascinating. It reflects a willingness to understand different perspectives across cultures, institutional setups, economies and market structures—and a shared belief that collective solutions to shared problems are a winning strategy.
Over the years, my work focused mainly on policy, from global systemically important institutions to compensation practices, from Libor reform to leverage in non bank financial intermediation.
Today, I coordinate the Secretariat’s support for the FSB Regional Consultative Groups (RCGs). RCGs are an essential mechanism for the FSB to extend cooperation beyond its membership. They provide a forum where authorities from emerging and developing economies and from the G20 can exchange knowledge and experiences, thus contributing to better policymaking – for the global good.
I’m excited to help strengthen the FSB’s global network as we tackle the next generation of financial stability challenges.
