Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
And to everyone in Thailand and Singapore watching this live on Facebook,

Good morning. I am equally delighted to be here in Bangkok again – this time to celebrate with SET and our partners, the fruition of ASEAN’s first two-way exchange-level depository receipts (DR) linkage.  This could only have been achieved with the support from everyone present today.

CONNECTING THAILAND AND SINGAPORE CAPITAL MARKETS

Singapore and Thailand have blazed a trail for closer collaboration between exchanges in this region.  With exchanges working together, we can draw more investments into ASEAN which is set to become the world’s fourth largest economy in 2030 .

Investors in Singapore recognise the growth potential of Thailand, with its vast domestic consumer market, supported by industries which are moving up the value chain.  Trading activity in Singapore DRs of the inaugural three Thai stocks has grown steadily among both trading and fundamental investors.

The launch of the SIA DR in Thailand has also been well-received.  I believe investors in Thailand are familiar with Singapore Airlines, which has multiple daily flights to Bangkok and also signed a partnership with Thai Airways last year .

Investor interest can only grow with the strong ecosystem support that we have received. Both SET and SGX are working closely with our brokers and partners to provide investors with more information, including research reports and webinars, to aid their trading and investment decisions.

We are building on the momentum to add more stocks to the linkage.  Investors in Thailand and Singapore can look forward to a wider range of investment choices in the months ahead.

In particular, I would like to thank Yuanta Securities and Krungthai Bank for coming on board as the first issuers of DRs on Singapore-listed companies in Thailand. Thank you also to the regulators for their continued support and guidance.

CLOSING

We are at the start of the journey and are excited at what is to come. Our efforts have given fresh impetus to how exchanges can work together to build a thriving region.

To friends in Thailand’s securities market ecosystem, we will continue to work with our valued partner the Stock Exchange of Thailand to open up new opportunities. We look forward to your support. Thank you!
