BME joins the celebration of Financial Education Day with a Bell Ringing at the Barcelona Stock Exchange. The event is part of the “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative, a project promoted by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and IOSCO as part of World Investor Week, in which stock exchanges around the world participate.
The Bell Ringing was led by Alícia Romero, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, accompanied by Juan Flames, Chief Executive Officer of BME.
The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Alícia Romero, has stressed the importance of providing tools that enable citizens to achieve good financial literacy. In this regard, she warned that a lack of such training can leave families in a vulnerable position when it comes to making financial decisions. She also defended the culture of hard work at a time when the prevailing discourse on social media promotes the idea of “easy and immediate money.” “We must provide the tools to be able to invest,” she concluded.
For his part, Juan Flames stated that fostering financial literacy is a priority to encourage retail investors to return to the stock market. “BME is working intensively with regulators and the broader financial industry to support the creation of the pan-European account. This new savings or investment product with tax incentives seeks to make it easier for citizens of the European Union to save and invest cross-border in the single market.”
In addition to the Bell Ringing, BME complements the activities for Financial Education Day with a series of webinars organized by Instituto BME, as a collaborating entity of “Finanzas para Todos.” This initiative is driven by the CNMV, the Bank of Spain, and the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Enterprise. This year’s motto is “Get informed. Plan. Decide.” The program reaches its eleventh edition and it is the second time that the day’s central event is held in Barcelona.
