Date 22/02/2010

Slawomir Panasiuk, Deputy President of the National Depository for Securities, Poland (KDPW), has been named CIO of the Year 2009. The prestigious title is awarded by CIO Magazine since 2003.

Slawomir Panasiuk has been recognised by the jury for the successful implementation of the new depository-settlement system kdpw_stream. This key KDPW project of the past years has been particularly important to the development of the Polish capital market.

“This is an award for the National Depository and all individuals and institutions involved in the project. This important recognition provides motivation for further innovative projects strengthening the Polish capital market and building KDPW’s international position,” said Slawomir Panasiuk.

The kdpw_stream system was implemented on 3 August 2009. The implementation was the largest IT project on the Polish capital market with the participation of over 80 partners. The project significantly improved the effectiveness and security of clearing and settlement of capital market transactions.

“The implementation of kdpw_stream is fundamental to growth opportunities of the Polish capital market. Today, state-of-the-art infrastructure is a precondition of international competitiveness. The implementation of the project was a natural response to the needs of the market and its participants. It was preceded by a detailed consultations process. KDPW has decided to implement the complex kdpw_stream project as it feels responsible for the future of the Polish market,” said KDPW CEO Iwona Sroka.

Slawomir Panasiuk is a graduate of the Cybernetics Department at the Military University of Technology. He completed post-graduate studies in IT at the Military University of Technology and holds a PhD from the College of Management and Finance of the Warsaw School of Economics. Since 1999 with the National Depository for Securities, he has worked at all levels of IT process management.

The title of “CIO of the Year” is awarded to IT managers who have implemented a valuable, important change in the company, whose work best corresponds to business needs, and who have successfully overcome obstacles and optimally used the potential of available resources while showing innovation and initiative.

The “CIO of the Year” was first announced in 2003. The philosophy of the ranking is to award a CIO representing top management skills, professional project management and leadership. The CIO of the Year is the first such independent initiative in Poland. It is organised by the International Data Group Poland and its publication CIO Magazine.
