Singapore Exchange Derivatives Trading Wins Another Award For Best Derivatives Exchange

Date 30/04/2001

Singapore Exchange Derivatives Trading (SGX-DT), a subsidiary of Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), has been awarded Best Derivatives Exchange for its performance in 2000, by The Asset Magazine.

The exchange also won the same title a year ago, when The Asset gave out its first Asset Asian Awards (Triple A).

In announcing the winners of the Triple A 2001, The Asset magazine noted that SGX is "already setting trends around the world after its first full year as an integrated securities and derivatives exchange".

In particular, SGX-DT was "the first one globally to implement an over-the-counter facility for large trades. This should enhance liquidity by bringing more end-users together" (see notes below on Negotiated Large Trade facility).

Furthermore, "in upholding its famed international status, it added yet another offshore index futures contract to its family" - the S&P CNX Nifty Indian Index Futures contract. The Asset also recognised that SGX has forged value-adding alliances with several exchanges around the world, including the Australian Derivatives Exchange in Sydney.

Mr Ang Swee Tian, SGX President, said, "We are very pleased that our efforts in pioneering initiatives and broadening our product range have been duly recognised. This recognition also extends to our members and partner exchanges, who together help us provide a global broking network for our market participants."

Mr Jimmy Ang, Executive Vice President and Head of SGX-DT, added, "We will continue to identify and anticipate the changing needs and trends of the local and global financial community, and work closely with strategic partners to broaden our marketplace, and deepen our liquidity pools."

This is the exchange's 7th award to date, after being named International Exchange of the Year 1989, 1992, 1993 and 1998 by International Financing Review; Asia's Best Derivatives Exchange 1999 by The Asset magazine; and Derivative Exchange of the Year 2000 by AsiaRisk magazine.
