Singapore Exchange Derivatives Market Sets Several Records In June And First Half Of 2003

Singapore Exchange (SGX) today announced that its derivatives market traded an all time high volume of 3,733,596 contracts in the month of June 2003, an increase from the last record volume of 3,611,883 contracts in July 2002.

Total trading volume for derivatives also reached its highest for any January-June period, with 17,645,280 contracts traded this year, a 13% increase as compared to 15,618,223 contracts traded in the similar period last year.

The Mini 10-year Japanese Government Bond (JGB) Futures contract broke its record monthly volume and open interest in June 2003. It traded a record volume of 118,867 contracts, surpassing its previous record of 116,395 contracts traded in June 2000. Its open interest hit a record of 57,275 contracts on 9 June 2003. Its previous open interest record was 55,443 contracts set on 7 March 2003.
