SIMEX July Volume Grows 18%; SiMSCI & Taiwan Futures Break Records Again

The Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) announced yet another month of robust growth. The month of July 1999 traded a total of 2,275,615 contracts, an increase of 18.1% compared to the 1,927,165 contracts traded in July 1998. This has brought the total trading volume for the first 7 months of 1999 to 15,606,513 contracts. It represents a growth of 2.3% over the same period last year, which traded a total of 15,255,992 contracts. Robust growth was also evident in the MSCI Singapore Stock Index (SiMSCI) futures, which broke 4 records in July 1999. Launched only in September 1998, the contract has been growing from strength to strength, achieving new heights frequently. MSCI Taiwan Stock Index futures also had a record breaking month in July, with 225,800 contracts, pipping its previous high of 221,688 contracts, which was achieved only in June 1999.
