Signing Of MOU Between Tokyo Commodity Exchange And Taiwan Futures Exchange

The Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) and Taiwan Futures Exchange (TAIFEX), Asia's major futures exchanges, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today at TOCOM.

The outline of this MOU is as follows:

  • Study on the development of areas of cooperation and business opportunities which will enhance the liquidity, efficiency and integrity of both markets.
  • Study on the establishment of procedures for communication and information exchange which will ensure both markets to function in a fair and orderly manner.
  • Study on the development of other areas of cooperation and business opportunities judged to be mutually beneficial.
  • Efforts to be made in order to secure approvals, permission and agreements which are deemed necessary to realize the aforementioned matters from regulatory authorities and relevant organizations of each party.
The following comments have been released from the Chairmen of both Exchanges on the signing of MOU.

NAKAZAWA Tadayoshi, TOCOM Chairman: "TOCOM has been strengthening collaboration with overseas exchanges which share similar types of commodity markets. At the same time, we are aiming to enhance market activities and price dissemination capacities in the entire Asian region. I sincerely hope that our signing of MOF with TAIFEX will provide the foundation for reinforcing our collaboration and cooperation with the Asian exchanges."

"Partnership can mean far more than just signing this MOU," said TAIFEX Chairman WANG Der-shan. He furthered "we truly attempt to build up the fundamental structure of interaction between our two exchanges." "While TAIFEX is considering expanding our product categories into commodity futures, TOCOM's profound experience in this area would provide valuable reference. We believe that our partnership will greatly contribute to the future of both organizations through frequent communication and cooperation in areas of common interest" said TAIFEX Chairman WANG Der-shan.
