Good morning. I’m Tim Ryan, president and CEO of SIFMA. Thank you for joining us at the 2012 Compliance and Legal Society Annual Seminar. Over the course of the conference, you will hear about the changes coming as a result of the revamping of the regulatory requirements affecting our industry. This is a once in a generation change with far reaching consequences and the changes need to be done right.
As a former lawyer (fully recovered) who practiced in government (National Labor Relations Board and Department of Labor) and private practice for over fifteen years, I understand your challenges and aspirations. The legal profession takes its responsibilities seriously—both to its clients and to society. It is from this perspective I’d like to make some short comments on the state of our industry and the regulatory environment in which we find ourselves.
