SIFMA Appoints Preston As Managing Director In Office Of General Counsel

The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) today announced the appointment of Diana Preston as managing director and associate general counsel in its Washington, D.C. office. Preston will work closely with SIFMA staff in London and Hong Kong on issues pertaining to international regulatory advocacy.

“We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Diana’s caliber join our ranks,” said Ira Hammerman, SIFMA senior managing director and general counsel. “SIFMA’s members will be well served by Diana, who comes to us with over 13 years of legal experience in both the private and public sectors. With a focus on international regulatory advocacy, she’ll be particularly helpful as SIFMA seeks to improve the environment for products and services in cross-border transactions.”

Preston comes to SIFMA from FOLIOfn Inc. where she was general counsel, executive vice president and secretary, responsible for legal, regulatory, and policy matters. Preston’s private sector experience also includes time spent at Capital One Financial Corporation as assistant general counsel and as an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Washington, D.C. Her time in the public sector includes three years at the SEC as senior counsel and another three years at the Department of Treasury as an honors attorney. Preston earned her J.D. from The American University’s Washington College of Law and her A.B. in social studies from Harvard College.
