Shenzhen Stock Exchange: As CNI Indices Include STAR Market Securities,SZSE Makes Unremitting Efforts To Develop Market Investment

Date 15/06/2022

SZSE’s wholly-owned subsidiary Shenzhen Securities Information Co., Ltd. issued an announcement, saying that the securities traded on Science and Technology Innovation Board (or the STAR Market) were successfully incorporated into the CNI cross-market indices on June 13th. This is a pragmatic move by SZSE to better play the role of indices in channeling investment and serve the high-quality development of real economy, marking further diversification of the A-share index system and another important progress in market investment development.

Product indices were adjusted. 19 of the 31 CNI cross-market indices have securities of the STAR Market included in, which involve 44 index fund products. By the end of May, relevant products totaled CNY 58.4 billion. Six securities of the STAR Market were included into CNI Semiconductor Chips Index, carrying the highest weight of 19.8%, and five STAR Market securities added into CNI Biomedicine Index, carrying a weight of 9.4%. Influential in relevant fields of the A-share market, the two indices CNI Chips and CNI Biomedicine, after adjustment, will further absorb representative enterprises in the fields. 82 securities of the STAR Market were included into CNI 2000 Index, representing the largest new inclusion of STAR Market stocks. Among them, there were 12 specialized and sophisticated enterprises that produce new and unique products. The number of samples under CNI 2000 Index has thus been increased to 145, leading major broad-based indices in the A-share market.

Focusing on emerging and growing enterprise, the CNI index system actively responds to diverse investment needs in the market and is committed to providing investors with differentiated index products for investments. Nearly 70 index fund products have been developed, with the fund holder accounts surpassing 1 million and the product scale totaling about CNY 70 billion. The inclusion of securities of the STAR Market into CNI indices will enhance the index representativeness and let more index fund holders share dividends from innovative development, which will facilitate the optimal allocation of medium and long-term funds and inject impetus into the market.

Based on arrangements, during regular sample adjustment in December 2022, non-product indices will be revised and samples of CNI cross-market indices without any product developed can also be selected from the STAR Market securities. Next, SZSE will, in accordance with the CSRC plans and requirements, give full play to the role of capital market, continuously promote the building of the characteristic index system, widen the underlying scope of index funds, and help expand index investments to attract medium and long-term funds into market and further boost the healthy and stable development of the capital market.
