Shenzhen Stock Exchange Approves The First CSI SEEE Carbon Neutral ETFs

Date 01/07/2022

On June 28, CSI SEEE carbon neutral ETFs with four fund managers (namely, China Southern Asset Management, ICBC Credit Suisse, China Merchants Fund and Dacheng Fund) were approved. The issuance and listing of relevant products will soon be launched on SZSE. This is an important move by SZSE, together with the mutual fund industry, to conscientiously implement the national 14th Five-Year Plan, give full play to the role of market in resource allocation and promote the attainment of the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. It will further diversify the “dual carbon” fund sector of SZSE and channel market funds into the low-carbon and sustainable development fields.

The CSI SEEE carbon neutral index selects 100 securities of listed companies having large market value in deep low-carbon areas (such as clean energy and energy storage) and high carbon emission reduction potential in areas with high carbon emission (such as thermal power and steel) in the A-share market as sample stocks to reflect the overall performance of listed company securities that have made great contributions to carbon neutrality in the markets of Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Since last year, SZSE has successively launched the first carbon neutral-themed ETF, the first green power-themed ETF and the first MSCI ESG ETF in the whole market. Moreover, SZSE has vigorously developed the exchange-traded funds themed on new energy and related green and low-carbon industries, and the scale of such products has amounted to more than CNY 20 billion.

Next, under the unified leadership of CSRC, SZSE will consciously embrace the new development stage, completely, accurately and comprehensively carry out the new development concept, actively serve the building of the new development pattern, give full play to the role of capital market, and efficiently gather high-quality resources. We will also push forward the establishment of the green finance service system in an orderly way and continuously expand the service chain of low-carbon enterprises to further diversify low-carbon fund products, green bond products and other investment varieties. Through these moves, we will guide financial resources channel into green and low-carbon areas, build the brand of a sustainable exchange and make positive contributions to attaining the goal of carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality.
