Share Trading Volume On The Spanish Exchanges From January Increased By 30.5%

  • In September trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 43.45 bn, 34% up on the previous month and 1% up on the same month last year.
  • Equity futures trading from January was up 25% on last year, posting 2.99 million contracts.
  • Trading in futures on the Ibex 35 index from January was 3.25 million contracts, a 24 % increase compared to the same period last year.
  • Corporate Debt trading posted a record high in September, reaching € 53.18 bn.

Equities

In September trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 43.45 bn, up 34% on the previous month and up 1% on the same period last year.

Volume traded from January to the end of the third quarter hit € 471.32 bn, an increase of 30.5 % compared to the same period in 2003.

In September the value of trading on Latibex exceeded € 32 million, a 25% increase over the same month in 2003 .

The return on the IBEX 35 index in September was 2.03%. It is worth mentioning the return on the FTSE Latibex Top index, which was close on 9% and that on the IBEX Nuevo Mercado, of 7.5%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in September on the warrants and certificates market 2004 came in at € 158 million, which represents a 22% increase over the previous month and a daily average volume of over 7 million euros.

The trading volume posted in the third quarter of the year was over 413 million euros, 20% up on the same period in 2003.

Derivatives

Futures and options traded through MEFF in September 2004 came in at 4.5 million contracts. It is worth mentioning the heavy trading activity for futures on equities, with 2.9 million contracts, up 25 % on the same month last year.

From January, futures trading on the Ibex 35 index was 3.2 million contracts, up 24% on the previous year. Trading in Mini Futures reached 922,706 contracts, up 10% from 2003.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in September reached a record high, with € 53.18 bn, a 77.3 % increase compared to the same period last year.

Accumulated trading volumes posted at the end of the third quarter came in at € 401.53 bn, 50.7 % up on the same period last year.

New admissions in September on this market reached € 21.51 bn in September, 82.8% up on the same period last year.

SENAF

The trading volume on SENAF, the Spanish Public-Debt trading platform, in September was € 37.25 bn, 9.4% up on the same month last year.

Between January and September the accumulated trading volume figure was € 301.15 bn.
