The 2022 international virtual roadshow on ETF and index investing, launched recently by the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), aimed at actively conveying the firm attitude of China’s capital market toward opening up and promoting the concept of value investment. The event attracted the registration and participation of the representatives of nearly 200 overseas investment institutions from Europe, America, Asia-Pacific and other regions, including leading asset management firms, sovereign wealth funds, endowment funds, pension funds and other renowned long-term investment institutions in the world.
Among the topics focused at the roadshow were the advantages of allocation in the SSE’s ETF market, the development trends of index investing and China’s macro-economic situation in 2022, and the opportunities of A-share investment. The keynote speakers delivered speeches on behalf of the SSE and China Securities Index Co., Ltd. (CSI), the two organizers of the event, as well as the leading assets managers and securities companies from home and abroad. The speakers shared their insights with the international investors in the developments of the SSE’s ETF market, the innovation and internationalization of domestic ETF products, and how overseas investors can use ETFs to invest in the sci-tech innovation industry, etc. The keynote speeches highlighted the development characteristics of China’s index system and the development trends of index investing in ESG and carbon neutrality. In addition, based on the current market situation, the attendees exchanged their own observations and views on China’s economic development prospects and the opportunities of asset allocation in China in 2022 from an international perspective.
Since March 2022, the SSE has worked hard to overcome the impact of the severe situation in pandemic prevention and control. In doing so, the SSE has made full use of the tools of “Cloud Communication” and “Cloud Service” to reinforce communication with and services for international investors. It has also taken the initiative to learn about overseas investors’ demands and respond to their concerns so as to address them as much as possible, and timely inform the overseas investors of the latest policies in the domestic market and the developments in the SSE’s relevant businesses. Meanwhile, the SSE has used the online roadshows and online platforms in various manners to facilitate the overseas investors’ research in the listed companies, as a number of activities such as international investors’ virtual visits to the companies listed on the SSE’s main board and the STAR Market and the international investors’ participation in the collective performance briefings of the STAR Market have been organized. All this aims to help the investors worldwide understand the development trends of the industries and the companies’ operations, and truly recognize the bright prospects and strong resilience of China’s economic development.
In the near future, the SSE will launch virtual visits by international investors to listed companies and the international roadshows of the SSE market by industry and theme. Through online roadshows, communication, research and other means, the SSE will strive to meet the needs of the investors in different regions and with varied risk preferences. The SSE will provide smooth and effective communication channels, continue to efficiently serve the investors around the world, and constantly expand and deepen the overseas investors’ participation in the domestic market.
