Shanghai Stock Exchange Issues Assignation Rules For Securities Identification Number

Date 30/05/2007

To reinforce business and technology management and ensure normal market trading, the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) has recently finalized the "SSE Rules on Assignation of Securities Identification Numbers" and issued it to all member units yesterday.

According to the rules, the SSE securities code numbers adopt six digits and range from 000000 to 999999. The first three digits represent securities classification, with the first one to identify products (0 to 9 stand for treasury bonds or indices, bonds, repos, futures, vacancy(standby), funds or warrants, A shares, non-trading businesses [issuance or rights and interests distribution], vacancy(standby) and B shares, respectively) and the next two to identify business types. The last three digits show the sequence.

The SSE requires all member units to cooperate in related work in line with the rules. In addition, the SSE can adjust the rules according to market condition.
