SGX-SIAS-MoneySENSE Seminars To Help Investors Make Informed Investment Decisions

Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), in partnership with the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) and MoneySENSE, announced today that they will run a series of four half-day seminars for investors. As a start to SGX’s longer-term investor education master plan, these seminars aim to reinforce basic knowledge in investing with the objective of helping investors make informed trading decisions.

These seminars will run on Saturday afternoons on 31 January, 7 and 28 February, and 7 March 2009. Key themes include:

  • Basics of investing in listed and unlisted securities;
  • Managing credit, risks and returns; and
  • Responsible investing and creating a sensible investment plan

“In the current volatile investing environment, it is even more important to empower investors with fundamental investing knowledge and equip them with a better understanding of risks and the pitfalls to avoid. As an Exchange in the forefront of listed product innovation, we also see a need to further educate investors. These seminars are the start of SGX’s longer-term investor education master plan, which takes on a thematic approach focusing on the following key areas:

  1. Products: Understanding investment products, including securities listed on SGX, in terms of usage context, potential returns and associated risks;
  2. Investing techniques: Technical analysis, fundamental analysis, understanding economic cycles, and investment strategies; and
  3. Risk management: Understanding credit and leverage and formulating a sensible investment plan.

SGX Academy to step up efforts in professional trader training

In addition to investor education, SGX is also stepping up efforts in the training of professional traders via SGX Academy, to attract new traders into the industry as well as enhance the capabilities of existing traders.
