SGX SICOM Rubber Report – October 2016

Date 09/11/2016

  • Benchmarks SICOM TSR 20 and SICOM RSS 3 averaged US$1.470/kg and US$1.667/kg in October, increasing 9% and 4% respectively from a month ago.

  • Rubber continued its rally in October, against a general softening in the commodity complex. Rubber production remained low in Thailand as heavy rainfall persisted in certain plantation regions within the country. With resupply slow to pick up, rubber inventory in Qingdao warehouses, already at multi-year low, continues to deplete further.

  • SICOM gained volume leadership in the international rubber futures market in October, and traded a record 148,845 contracts (744,225MT). Liquidity in the marketplace improved with higher trading activities seen across all participant segments. Daily volume averaged 7,088 lots (35,439MT), also a record high. Combined open interest in SGX SICOM rubber futures ended October at 62,488 contracts (312,440MT).
