SGX Securities And Derivatives Markets Trade Record Volumes For 2003

Singapore Exchange (SGX) today announced that both its derivatives and securities markets traded record annual volumes in 2003.

The SGX securities market traded an all-time high of 217.66 billion units, surpassing its previous record of 155.80 billion units set in 1999.

This new record represents a growth of 94.6% over 111.85 billion units traded in 2002. In terms of dollar value, 2003 saw S$161.95 billion of securities traded, a growth of 36.4% over S$118.70 billion traded in 2002.

The SGX derivatives market traded its third consecutive yearly record volume in 2003 with 35,648,224 contracts, an 8.4% increase as compared to its previous record of 32,887,395 contracts set in 2002.
