SGX MSCI Japan Index Futures Contract Receives US CFTC Approval For Offer And Sale In The United States

Date 18/02/2003

Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) today announced that institutions and other market participants in the US can now use the SGX MSCI Japan Index Futures Contract to hedge and manage their assets that are benchmarked to the MSCI Japan IndexSM.

This follows the grant by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of "no-action" relief for the SGX MSCI Japan Index Futures Contract to be offered and sold in the United States.

The SGX MSCI Japan Index Futures Contract is based on the capitalization-weighted MSCI Japan IndexSM, which currently comprises 319 securities listed on stock exchanges in Japan. It is traded on the SGX Electronic Trading System (SGX ETS) from 7.55 am to 7.00 pm (Singapore Time). The contract size is JPY 5,000 multiplied by the MSCI Japan IndexSM level, and five quarterly contract months, in the March, June, September and December cycle, are listed for trading.

Currently, SGX also offers a successful SGX Nikkei 225 Stock Index Futures Contract that is traded on the open outcry and also on the SGX ETS after the regular trading hours.
