SGX Introduces Palm/Pocket PC Access To Derivatives Trading

Date 26/09/2001

Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) today announced that its Electronic Trading System (ETS) for derivatives products can be accessed from palm/pocket PCs with effect from 26 October 2001.

SGX has worked with patsystems, a leading supplier of electronic trading systems who developed the palm/pocket PC access software solution, to enable customers of SGX's members with patsystems to trade from anywhere, and at any time during the exchange's derivatives trading hours. This initiative will benefit a wide range of the exchange's clients including Floor Locals who may want to trade on the ETS while trading on the floor. The launch of this facility will coincide with the introduction of SGX's Single Stock Futures contracts on 26 October 2001.

The other contracts which can be traded electronically include Euroyen Futures, Japanese Government Bond Futures, Nikkei 225 Futures, Nikkei 300 Futures, MSCI Taiwan Index Futures, MSCI Singapore Index Futures, Straits Times Index Futures, S&P CNX NIFTY Index Futures and the 5-Year Singapore Government Bond Futures.

Mr Thomas Kloet, CEO of SGX said, "This is another step in SGX's pursuit to provide our customers with convenient access to our markets wherever they may be. By working with independent software vendors (ISVs) such as patsystems, the exchange will continue to create innovative solutions that add value to our members' distribution network and extend the reach of our products and services."

Mr Kazuaki Takabatake, Director of patsystems Pte Ltd said, "We are happy to introduce the world's first trading access through palm/pocket PCs for SGX. We believe that such a facility will enable exchanges to bridge the gap between the open outcry and electronic trading platforms."

The SGX ETS is also accessible globally through Bloomberg and GL terminals, as well as via the internet using solutions developed by other independent software vendors such as Easyscreen, GL Trade and patsystems. In addition, ETS is also accessible through SESOPS terminals located at the premises of SGX securities trading members.
