SGX Group (Singapore Exchange) has been named “Derivatives Exchange of the Year” at the Risk Asia Awards and for a third consecutive year, “Commodity Exchange of the Year” at the Energy Risk Asia Awards, for its innovation in derivatives and commodity markets.
The accolades reflect SGX Group’s efforts to strengthen its market infrastructure and expand risk-management solutions in response to changing trading patterns and customer needs. Risk.net, a leading London-based industry publication, announced the winners of its Risk Asia Awards on 22 October and Energy Risk Asia Awards on 19 October in Singapore.
Over the past year, SGX Group continued to broaden its derivatives offering across asset classes. This included the introduction of regulated Bitcoin and Ethereum perpetual futures, giving institutional participants access to crypto derivatives within a centrally cleared exchange framework.
In commodities, the exchange aligned its benchmark iron ore derivatives with prevailing physical-market practices through the transition from 62% Fe to 61% Fe specifications. It also completed the freight market’s first liquidity switch to the Panamax 5TC benchmark and extended trading hours for rubber derivatives, supporting price discovery and risk management across time zones.
Janice Kan, Head of Derivatives at SGX Group, said, “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our customers, partners and teams to advance markets that remain relevant, resilient and trusted. Our focus is on innovating to meet evolving market needs, including the introduction of regulated crypto perpetual futures. In a world marked by greater uncertainty and complexity, trusted markets matter more than ever.”
William Chin, Head of Commodities at SGX Group, said, “Commodity markets have faced heightened volatility and shifting trade flows, reinforcing the importance of reliable benchmarks and resilient market infrastructure. The successful transition of our iron ore bellwether reflects the discipline required to manage market change, while maintaining continuity for customers. We remain focused on strengthening liquidity and supporting effective risk management across the commodities ecosystem.”
