SGX Futures & Options Volume Hits New Record In June

Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) today announced that the overall volume for its Futures & Options market has hit a new record of 3.9 million contracts for the month of June 2006. This exceeds its previous record of 3.7 million in June 2003 by 5%.

Total Futures & Options volume from January to June 2006 grew 70% to 19,203,765 contracts, compared to 11,310,711 contracts traded in the same period last year.

Two of SGX’s most active contracts, the SGX Nikkei 225 Index futures and the MSCI Taiwan Index futures also achieved new records in the month of June 2006.

Total volume for SGX Nikkei 225 Index futures from January to June registered 9.8 million contracts while the MSCI Taiwan Index futures closed at 5.5 million. On a year-on-year basis, the volumes for both contracts have grown by 102% and 49% respectively.
