Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) announced today that its Futures & Options market, as well as three of its futures contracts, has set new records for volumes traded in the month of August 2007.
Total volume of SGX’s Futures & Options market was 4.90 million contracts in August 2007. This exceeds the previous record of 4.18 million in March 2007 by 17.29%.
The increase in overall volume was driven by strong growth in key contract volumes. Three futures contracts set new record volumes in August 2007:
- 2.60 million for SGX Nikkei 225 Index futures;
- 1.42 million for SGX MSCI Taiwan Index futures; and
- 506,453 for SGX MSCI Singapore Index futures, an increase of 50.89% over the previous record set in July 2007.
Year-on-year January-August growth
Total SGX Futures & Options volume from January to August 2007 grew 15.88% to 28.47 million contracts traded, compared to 24.56 million contracts in the same period last year.
January to August 2007 volumes for the three contracts also saw strong year-on-year growth:
- SGX Nikkei 225 Index futures grew 15.74% to 14.18 million;
- SGX MSCI Taiwan Index futures grew 23.73% to 8.80 million contracts; and
- SGX MSCI Singapore Index futures saw the strongest growth, surging 78.82% to 2.52 million contracts.
