Singapore Exchange (SGX) today reported strong trading growth in its securities and derivatives markets in February.
Key highlights are:-
- Total securities trading value was $23.8 billion in February 2010, up almost 50% from a year earlier. Securities trading value of Catalist listings was $240 million in February 2010, over six times that achieved a year earlier.
- Average daily volume for the derivatives market rose 28% year-on-year to almost 240,000 contracts. Equity index options activity picked up, with volume quintupling to 20,421 contracts from a year earlier while open interest tripled to 31,032 contracts from a year earlier.
- Commodities activity continued to gather momentum as SICOM’s volume edged 8% up to 21,786 contracts from January 2010.
In February, SGX also enhanced its monthly statistics report by adding more data including trading volumes and values for Exchange Traded Funds and Company Warrants and year-onyear data for the latest month.
Enhancements to the monthly statistics report will continue in the months ahead to meet the needs of users.
