SGX Derivatives Volume Grows 39% In October - MSCI Taiwan & Singapore Futures Break Records

Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) today announced that its derivatives trading volume for the month of October 2002 grew 39.1% to 3,317,764 contracts, compared to 2,385,536 contracts in October 2001. Total volume from January to October 2002 grew 13.0% to 28,824,293 contracts, from 25,500,075 contracts during the same period last year.

Strong growth in trading volume, year-on-year, was also recorded in the following contracts:-

Individual contracts also broke several records in October. The SGX MSCI Taiwan Stock Index (TiMSCI) and MSCI Singapore Stock Index (SiMSCI) futures contracts set new records in monthly trading volume:-

In addition, open interest records were broken by the Eurodollar and SiMSCI futures contracts. Eurodollar futures open interest reached a new high of 206,566 contracts on 28 October, compared with the previous record of 191,763 contracts on 12 September 2001. SiMSCI futures broke its open interest records 13 times in October, with the latest being 25,062 contracts on 29 October.
