SGX Derivatives Trading Volume Grows 5% In January; Taiwan And Singapore Futures Break Records

Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) today announced that the total number of derivatives contracts traded in January 2002 increased by 4.7% to 2,581,566 compared to 2,430,103 traded in January 2001.

The MSCI Taiwan Index futures contracts continued its growth and record-breaking trend started since last September. It achieved a 35.7% growth of 428,657 contracts for January as compared to 315,857 contracts traded in the same month last year. Its open interest record was broken 3 times consecutively from 28 Jan 2002 - 30 Jan 2002.
