SGX Derivatives Trade Record Volume For First Half Of 2002 - June 2002 Volume Increases 16.5%

SGX announced today that its derivatives market set a record volume for any January - June period with 15,618,223 contracts traded. This is a 3.23% increase as compared to the previous record set last year of 15,128,829 contracts.

Robust growth was recorded by several futures contracts such as Eurodollar, Mini Japanese Government Bond (Mini JGB), MSCI Taiwan Index and MSCI Singapore Index (see table below).

Total derivatives volume for June 2002 increased 16.5% to 3,048,809 contracts as compared to 2,616,572 contracts traded on the same month last year. The month of June also saw MSCI Taiwan futures and options, as well as MSCI Singapore futures breaking daily records.
