SGX Cares has concluded its fundraising efforts for the year with its 19th annual SGX Cares Bull Charge Charity Run, raising close to S$3 million for its beneficiaries. The hybrid event started its virtual run last month with 4,000 participants clocking close to 79,000km, and capped it off today with 2,500 runners thronging the Central Business District. The in-person run comprised a 5km Mass Run and 3.5km Chief Challenge involving CEOs and chiefs of companies.
Guest-of-Honour Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean presented a cheque for S$2,988,888 to Community Chest, which will channel the proceeds to the adopted SGX Cares beneficiaries for 2022 – AWWA Ltd., Autism Association (Singapore), Fei Yue Community Services, HCSA Community Services and Shared Services for Charities.
Mr. Loh Boon Chye, Chief Executive Officer of SGX Group, said, “SGX Cares' purpose of 'Better Happens Together' truly came to life this year, with sponsors, partners and employees uniting to initiate and support the manifold fundraising events held throughout the year. Not only were they generous in sponsoring funds, they were also unstinting in offering their time and resources. We are grateful for everyone’s partnership which will enable our beneficiaries to have better care and support.”
Mr. Chew Sutat, Chairman of Community Chest, said, “SGX Cares’ longstanding partnership with Community Chest exemplifies the sustained impact that we are able to bring to the community through collaboration. Funds raised from SGX Cares Bull Charge, complemented by the volunteering efforts of SGX Cares Outreach, has supported programmes that empower groups like children with special needs and lower-income families, and provided resources to help charities build capability. Community Chest is heartened by SGX Cares’ commitment to engage and unite its partners in giving back and I hope other companies will be inspired to join us to enable sustainable giving, so that together we can build a caring and inclusive home for all.”
SGX Cares, the collective name for SGX Group’s CSR pillars of Bull Charge, Outreach and Financial Literacy, aims to create positive impact by activating the power of community. Bull Charge, its flagship fundraising initiative, has now raised over S$44 million since 2004 for more than 50 charities and a variety of causes, through the support of corporate sponsors and partners from the international financial community.
This year’s wide range of SGX Cares Outreach programmes included weekly sports workshops at AWWA School @ Bedok for children with autism spectrum disorder, acrylic painting and virtual chair exercises sessions for the elderly, as well as packing and delivery of care packages to the underprivileged and low-income families.
