SGX Appoints New Member To The SGX Appeals Committee And The Catalist Appeals Committee

Date 09/11/2009

Singapore Exchange (“SGX”) appoints Mr Lawrence Ang Boon Kong as the newest member of the Singapore Exchange Limited Appeals Committee (“SGX AC”) and the Catalist Appeals Committee (“Catalist AC”). His appointment takes effect from 1 November 2009.

From 1999 to 2008, Mr Ang was the Principal Senior State Counsel (“PSSC”) in the Criminal Justice Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers. Prior to his appointment as PSSC of the Criminal Justice Division, he was the Director of the Commercial Affairs Department for several years. Mr Ang’s in-depth experience and strong expertise in assessing criminal matters, especially Securities and Futures Act offences, will be valuable to the SGX AC and the Catalist AC.

The Appeals Committee is a committee independent of SGX. It hears appeals against the decisions of SGX's disciplinary committees. This ensures a greater level of impartiality and objectivity. The Securities and Futures (Amendment) Act 2005, which came into effect on 1 July 2005, removed the previous avenue of appeal to the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Mr Ang’s appointment replaces Mr Lim Choo Peng, a former member of the SGX AC and the Catalist AC.
