In announcing the change, Mr J Y Pillay, Chairman SGX, commented: "On behalf of the board, I welcome Mr Chew, a distinguished figure on the Singapore corporate scene, and the leader of a superbly-managed company. His vast experience in business matters, combined with a deep understanding of strategy and organisational dynamics, will be of great value to SGX in its quest to be a leading exchange."
Mr Pillay continued: "I would like to express my deep gratitude to Mr Wong for his outstanding service in the progress and development of SGX in its first five formative years. His calm, dispassionate manner, business sense, focus on essentials, and deep understanding of what makes organisations tick, will be greatly missed. But I respect his wish to be relieved of his SGX directorship on account of the heavy workload he has assumed as Chairman of the NUS Council. On behalf of the board, I wish him continued success in his manifold activities."
Curricula Vitae of Mr Chew Choon Seng
Mr Chew serves the Singapore Airlines as its CEO since June 2003. Since joining the Company in 1972, he has held senior assignments at the SIA Head Office and overseas. Prior to becoming CEO, he was Senior Executive Vice-President (Administration), overseeing the Finance, Treasury, Corporate Planning, Human Resources, Legal and Corporate Affairs divisions.
Mr Chew is Chairman of Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (SALE), the Airline's leasing associate, and Deputy Chairman of Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd. and SIA Engineering Company. He also serves as a Director of Virgin Atlantic Airways, and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Singapore International Foundation.
Mr Chew graduated with a First Class Honours in mechanical engineering from the University of Singapore and a Master of Science in Operations Research and Management from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London.
