Singapore Exchange (SGX) and the World Bank (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) today announced an education partnership to raise investor awareness for bonds that achieve a positive social impact.
Under this partnership, SGX and the World Bank will offer a series of events through SGX Academy about the opportunities for retail investors offered by World Bank sustainable development bonds.
The inaugural forum in this series, titled “Understanding Bond Investments and Quality Products with a Social Purpose”, will be held tomorrow at the SGX Auditorium. Topics covered will include an introduction to the World Bank and its development mandate, World Bank sustainable development bonds and strategies for bond investment in general.
Arunma Oteh, World Bank Vice President and Treasurer, will deliver a keynote address at the event. “I am extremely excited to launch this education partnership with SGX to grow investor knowledge in sustainable development bonds. Singapore provides access to ASEAN and has a strong debt capital market, making it the ideal location to launch this education programme as we explore how to bring triple-A high quality investment products to retail investors in Singapore. The World Bank is exploring an issuance for retail investors that would be listed on the Singapore Exchange,” she said about the partnership.
Chew Sutat, Head of Equities & Fixed Income, SGX, said, “The education partnership between SGX and the World Bank is an important development for Singapore as a key financial hub. World Bank’s value proposition caters to the needs of discerning investors looking to make a social and environmental impact, and we look forward to facilitating the listing of products with a social purpose, in Singapore.”
In addition to the face-to-face seminars organised by SGX Academy, SGX and the World Bank will also be working with tertiary institutions in Singapore to educate young investors, as well as conducting webinars and creating online education content, on investing in bonds that achieve a positive social impact.
