Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) and the Association of Financial and Commodity Traders (Singapore) (AFACT) announced today that they are embarking on a Financial Trading Capabilities Development Plan to enhance the trading skill sets of financial trading professionals in Singapore through SGX Academy.
The plan aims to offer top tier financial trading training programmes to practising financial professionals as well as new entrants, in line with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) strategic thrust to build a greater pool of highly talented financial professionals.
The aim is the creation of a pool of highly proficient new generation traders. These traders will be equipped with advanced capabilities in executing complex and high-speed trading strategies, augmented by strong trading psychology and discipline. This development is critical to the introduction of more innovative financial products and enhancing depth in Singapore’s capital markets.
Six professional trading training programmes are offered under the plan:
- Essentials of Professional Futures Trading with Technical Analysis
- Advanced Futures Trading Analysis with Interactive Trading and Professional Mentoring
- Options Trading with MSCI Singapore Futures
- Interest Rate Futures Spread Trading – Macro Fundamental Analysis, Spread Trading and Risk Reduction Techniques
- Position Trading – Economic Indicators Transformational Trading Techniques
- Inter-Market Correlation Trading – Scalping, Outright and Spread Trading Techniques
These programmes will be conducted by accomplished AFACT members who are highly proficient in advanced trading strategies and possess years of trading experience. Free previews of these courses will be conducted from 23 October to 11 November 2009.
“These training programmes are aimed at preparing professional traders for the increasingly competitive and technology-driven business of trading. This initiative will underpin efforts to broaden and deepen our securities and derivatives markets. With support from AFACT, SGX aims to be the professional training hub for global traders,” said Mr Andrew Ler, Senior Vice President & Head, Private Investors of SGX.
“We are pleased to be working with SGX in the development of professional traders. We hope that specialised training programmes like these, coupled with support from MAS, will help create vibrancy and add depth to our capital markets. AFACT strongly supports this initiative and, upon completion of their courses, we welcome the trainees to take up SGX Membership and join us as professional traders,” said Mr Ng Tee How, President of AFACT.
“A deep pool of skilled talent is critical to the continued success of the Singapore financial sector. Financial trading professionals need to continually upgrade their competencies to meet the demands of a dynamic marketplace. We believe that this SGX-AFACT training partnership will raise the professional standards of the capital markets industry," said Mr Ng Nam Sin, Executive Director of MAS.
Going forward, SGX and AFACT will be working closely to identify training gaps and to put in place more training programmes to cater to the evolving changes in the capital markets. This would support AFACT’s mandate to grow the professional derivatives trader community, as well as develop capabilities for local traders. AFACT is also looking to provide mentoring support to new entrants.
