SFE Launches Carbon Trading Web Site

Date 21/12/1999

A new web site dedicated to carbon trading was launched yesterday. An initiative of the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), the site is dedicated to providing interested parties with the latest information about the emerging market for carbon credits. There has been tremendous public, industry and government interest in carbon credits since August 1999, when SFE and its subsidiary the New Zealand Futures and Options Exchange announced their intention to develop the world's first exchange-traded market for carbon credits. This new web site will articulate the key components of the proposed market, explain the rationale for the market's development and detail the process required to move forward. The main features of the site include: Explanations as to what a carbon trading market is and how carbon supply is sourced; Access to relevant media releases and other documents; Links to related industry, government and international web sites; Glossary of carbon trading and exchange-related terms; Feedback mechanism for comments about the site and the issue of carbon trading generally. SFE's development of this web site is consistent with its objectives to create an open and transparent carbon trading market, in consultation with market participants, that is operational by mid-2000. For further information, please visit the web site: www.carbontrading.com.au.
