The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) announced that as of Noon today, seven CBOE memberships, or seats, have traded, and a new record high price was established at $1,500,000. Seats have been purchased today at the following prices: $1,425,000, $1,450,000, $1,500,000, $1,475,000, $1,500,000, $1,500,000, and $1,500,000.
Including the seven seats sold today, 92 CBOE seats have traded so far this year, with 75 of those selling for one-million dollars or more. (Note: this corrects the total number of sales cited in a press release sent this morning).The first time that a CBOE seat traded for $1 million was on February 2, 2006.
Seats are bought and sold via CBOE's Membership Department using an auction method in which bids and offers are submitted to the Exchange on an "as-desired" basis. When a bid matches an offer, a sale is made.
