Date 10/06/2005

Senior Vice President of the SET Mr. Sethaput Suthiwart-Narueput, Ph.D., who oversees the Research & Information Division, announced that the division will play a key role in supporting and encouraging related parties both within and outside of the SET, including investors, to utilize analytical information based upon facts in making their investment decisions.

He reported, “To make our research and information efforts benefit the majority of its users, we’ve held a roundtable discussion on ‘Ways to Develop Research & Information Work’. Participants in the roundtable discussion included Ms. Sureeporm Chandrapravej, Deputy Director, Research Department, The Securities and Exchange Commission; Ms. Kulpatra Sirodom Ph.D., Director, M.B.A. Program in the International Program, Thammasat University; Mr. Chongrak Rarueysong Ph.D., President, the Association of Securities Companies (ASCO); Mr. Sethaput Suthiwart-Narueput Ph.D., Senior Vice President, the SET and Mr. Teerat Ratanasevi, Economic Editor, iTV. The session was moderated by Ms. Patiporn Sitthiphong from the Family Know-How Co. Ltd.”

Mr. Siripong Paisarnkongtawee, the SET’s Deputy Vice President-Public Information Dept., said that this year his department will focus on improving the quality of fundamental data on listed firms and trading data, as well as statistics that will be useful for investors.

“To ensure that our disseminated data is perfectly correct, we’ll employ the User Acceptance Test, a process that examines and tests data. We will also centralize the data manipulation system so as to reduce any potential inconsistencies in the disseminated data,” Mr. Siripong continued.

“Furthermore, the SET’s website at www.set.or.th has also been improved, as it’s one of our primary distribution channels. The website has been re-designed and re-categorized, and has incorporated more content and tools to make it more useful and user-friendly. The new look of the SET’s website was launched in April 2005 when the SET celebrated its 30th anniversary,” he noted.

With regards to the further development of the SET’s research capabilities, Ms. Satjapa Thongprasarn, SET Deputy Vice President- Research, said that: “We’ll focus on producing analytical reports that clarify the linkages between the macro-economy and the capital market. The Research Dept. produces the ‘SET Note’ report quarterly, after all the listed companies have submitted their financial statements for that quarter. The ‘SET Note’ analyzes topics establishing links between listed companies’ performances and the macro economic conditions during a specified period of time. The ‘SET Note’ is distributed on the SET’s website.”

Ms. Chirapattana Manotnarumon, SET’s Assistant Vice President-International Affairs Dept., elaborated that: “We’ll still emphasize raising the SET’s profiles in the international arenas, and disseminating facts about the Thai capital market so that overseas institutions such as CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) receive only accurate, up-to-date information and hence have a clearer understanding about the SET, the capital market, the listed companies and Thailand’s economy as a whole. Furthermore, we’ll also play an important role in any talks that concern the Exchange. This includes our participation in the working committee of the ASEAN Task Force to develop the capital markets of ASEAN member countries.”
