SET Launches “SET Social Impact Gym 2020”, Grooming Social Enterprises To Build Balanced Growth

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), in partnership with Market for Alternative Investment (mai) and mai Listed Company Association (maiA), organizes the SET Social Impact Gym 2020 project for the fourth consecutive year to nurture social enterprises (SEs) to become the successful entrepreneur. This year, 13 SEs will participate in an eight-week intensive workshop, an exclusive one-on-one mentorship program.  

SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai said that under the SET’s vision ‘To Make the Capital Market Work for Everyone’, the exchange has created the “SET Social Impact” platform as a sustainable shared value mechanism that enhance social impact collaboration by bridging the business sector which abounds with resources and expertise with the social sector which is enthusiasm to solve social and environmental problems. This is an efficient venue for knowledge sharing and lessons learned that can lead to exponential changes and positive social returns. A major drive of these changes is to enhance business potential for SEs. During the past four years, over 2,000 social entrepreneur have been joined series of Learning Journey program, in which SET Social Impact Gym project is part of the process to incubate their strong growths.

“The SET Social Impact Gym 2020 project to be held under the theme of “Idea to I Done” focuses on not only developing and extending business value of SEs to solve social problems at a broad scope but also encouraging them to take part in remedying the current social and economic crises. This year, 34 top executives of mai-listed companies and SET will team up to be volunteer mentors or so-called Prolunteers, a mix between professional and volunteer, to unleash SE potential, share entrepreneurship experience, transfer essential business knowhow and techniques to help them become successful social entrepreneurs. These volunteer executives will also have a chance to reskill their knowledge transfers and conduct in-depth study on business innovation of each participating SE with potential to scale up business and magnify impact outcome in various dimensions of social aspects including education, agriculture, community development, vulnerable groups, environment and healthcare,” added Pakorn.     

maiA President Trisorn Volyarngosol said to help steer this project, 34 key executives from mai-listed companies and SET have joined efforts to transfer their knowledge and experience as Prolunteers who will play a role as coaches, mentors and advisors to SEs throughout eight weeks. Previously, maiA’s executives also conducted business workshop, a pre-course training to gear up SEs for Social Impact Gym project, and this participation indicates intention and commitment of maiA’s executives on sustainable development and business sector’s role to drive the economic growth and to leverage talents, as well as to create a shortcut for business growth. The project is a concerted attempt to use established SEs in driving sustainability.   

All Prolunteers from both mai-listed companies and SET wish to see intention, innovations from new generation of SEs and effective changes in addressing social problems. All mentors will not only give out the knowledge and experience, but will also gain positive impact, passion and creativities directly from SEs, a two-way learning process which can lead to joint ventures or further business expansion in the future.

The SET Social Impact Gym 2020 project is an intensive workshop to enhance SE’s potential, conducted one-on-one in five areas: 1) Business Warm Up: Social Impact Creation 2) Burn Fat: How to Super Lean 3) Body Fit & Firm: Decision Making & Growth Mindset 4) Build Muscle: Leadership of the Next Betterment, and 5) Six Pack Day: Speech Day. The SE participants must pass SET SE 102 training workshop to engage themselves both updated theoretical and practical entrepreneurial skill. During the past three years, the SET Social Impact Gym project has improved entrepreneurial potential of 46 SEs and further built momentum with other business alliances by initiating over 200 projects.
