The Stock Exchange of Thailand Foundation (SET Foundation), jointly with the Sugree Charoensook Foundation, today granted the 2019 Good Deeds Commendation Award in music promotion category to Seng Abu, widely known as master Beyeng, a mandolin musician from Pattani province, who has become the guardian of Pattani music heritage. His music, rich with stories and lifestyle, has been inherited to children and youths to carry on valuable and rare culture.
SET Senior Executive Vice President Krisada Sektrakul, as the SET Foundation's Member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer, said the SET Foundation has supported the Sugree Charoensook Foundation with focus on leveraging music as a tool to boundlessly heal the soul of all regardless of gender, age or social status. People across demographic groups have been benefited neurologically, physically and mentally. The recognition aims to give morale support and encouragement as well as financial support to create and cherish worthwhile music.
Chairman of Sugree Charoensook Foundation Associate Professor Dr. Sugree Charoensook said: “The award this year is granted to master Beyeng to recognize him as a role model for dedicated music master in inheriting the country’s musical heritage. Master Beyeng has passed on the exotic cultural heritage called Ronggeng to the next generation, in the southern part of Thailand, as he has vividly taught students how to perform this traditional music for many years. Over 300 Pattani heritage songs that master Beyeng has memorized can be performed on mandolin. His vibrant music resonates the reminiscence of lifestyle, history of Pattani community, the trace of history, and evolution. Hopefully, the songs can be revitalized to attract wider audiences.”
The SET Foundation is committed to addressing social problems involving children and youths, the elderly, and life quality development.
