September 2004 - Euronext Key Indicators - Euronext.liffe Up 15% At End Of Third Quarter - Over 616 Million Contracts Traded - Cash Transactions In September Up 6.5% On The Average Of The Last Three Months

Cash products

10.7 million transactions were registered on Euronext’s cash markets in September 2004. This represents an increase of 6.5% compared to the average of the three previous months, down on the same month last year, which was the second busiest month since the creation of Euronext. Over the first nine months of 2004 more than 105 million transactions were completed, representing a daily average of 545,000.

Shares

10.2 million transactions were registered in shares during September 2004, up 6.8% on the average of the last three months. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 100 million transactions have been completed, slightly down on the same period of 2003. The year-to-date average daily number of share transactions amounted to 518,000.

Certificates & warrants

Around 38,000 transactions were completed in certificates in September 2004, up 213% on September 2003 and 137% in the year-to-date.

17,000 transactions were registered in September on the 110 turbo warrants/certificates1 now listed on Euronext and launched for the first time last May. This is up 81% on a daily average basis compared to the average completed between May and August.

Derivatives products

Euronext.liffe, the international business of Euronext, traded over 616 million futures and options contracts year-to-date, up 15% on the same period in 2003.

Individual equity products have showed the strongest growth in the first three quarters of this year trading over 250 million contracts, up 32% on the first three quarters of 2003. Individual equity products in Amsterdam reached a new open interest record of over 20 million on 16 September 2004. Equity products as a whole traded 40 million futures and option contracts in September, up 18% on the same period last year.

Short term interest rate products traded over 26 million futures and options contracts in September, up 7% on September 2003 and 230 million year-to-date, up 12% for the same period last year.

The Eurodollar futures contract traded 603,221 contracts in September representing an average daily volume of 27,419 – the busiest month since launch in March.
